Work Platform Attachment

This course enables students through knowledge and skills to understand how to prepare a safety platform for use when attached to the powered industrial lift truck (PILT); how to conduct pre operational checks, identify hazards, and fit and remove platform from PILT at the conclusion of a task.

Certification

Certification will be awarded to students who achieve a minimum of 80% pass in both theory and practical components. Students who have met unit standard requirements will be awarded US18409 if requested at time of enrolment.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • Health and safety legal requirements.
  • Codes and Practice and Safety Codes.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • PPE requirements.
  • Pre-operational checks and operation.
  • Communication techniques.
  • Safe use on a worksite.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify a PILT safety cage and prepare to use a safety platform for a specified task on a worksite.
  • Complete pre-operational checks, and fit and remove safety platform to and from a PILT.
  • Use a PILT fitted with a safety platform to complete work at heights.

Course structure

Students will be required to participate in group exercises and demonstrate their knowledge verbally.

Course prerequisites

Operator must be certified to operate the PILT.

Assessment process

Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. Practical assessment involves operating a PILT with a safety platform at height.

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every three years.

There isn’t much that Bob can’t drive or operate.  Bob is a MITO, and Connexis registered assessor, a Competenz registered Forklift Trainer and an NZTA approved assessor.  Bob started his career as a Driver/Operator within the Transport and Building Industries and has spent the last 20 years training people on safe driving and operating equipment.  He believes in giving the right information to the candidate so that they can make the right decisions out there in the workplace, that teaching the safe use of heavy machinery includes a strong approach to forming a safety culture at their workplace so that the operator goes home safe every day.
