Safety Observer

This course provides students with an understanding of the work, activities and hazardous environments requiring a Safety Observer to control, monitor and maintain safety. This includes Safety Observer responsibilities and duties covering hot work, confined space, excavations, and working at height activities as well as emergency response measures.

Certification

A Safety Observer certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

Identify criteria under work permit procedures where the safety observer is required to control, monitor and maintain safety for activity.
Identify hazardous environments and activities requiring safety observer control.
Identify safety observer responsibilities.
Identify emergency response measures.

Course structure

This course is conducted in a classroom environment and is theory based. Students are assessed continuously during the course.

None.

Assessment process

Theory assessment which takes place when the student is ready.

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.
