The course allows students to prepare for and sling, lift, travel, and unload or place regular loads using a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane before parking the crane and storing equipment. Participants in this course will be able to implement controls to reduce hazards/risks and carry out checks and maintenance tasks.
Standard: 3800 L3 C10 V6
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
A combination of theoretical and practical training and assessment.
Unit 30072, Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely. For those experienced in the field, the pre- requisite may be waived on the basis of an attestation that indicates the trainee is able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills that are equivalent to the requirements of the unit standard 30072.
Experience requirement:
The standard setting body for this unit standard Waihanga Ara Rau has advised students must have industry workplace experience prior to being practically assessed for 3800. The minimum requirement is 50 hours or 25 lifts of verified workplace experience related to the use of a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane to lift and place regular loads. This can be evidenced by submitting a copy of your companies logbook or one available from Wood Training.
Crane maintenance checklists
If you complete daily and weekly maintenance checklists on an overhead crane in your workplace, bring copies of these as evidence of performing maintenance activities.
Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required and have met the experience requirement as outlined above. Assessment involves two different assessor observed lifts.
If the experience evidence is not received and approved by Wood Training prior to the practical assessment (Part B) portion of the course the student will not be permitted to undergo the practical assessment and must rebook to undertake this once evidence has been provided to Wood Trainings satisfaction.
To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every three years.
