Telehandler Operator Cerfication Refresher

This course enables students to refresh their knowledge of the safe operation of a telehandler and the legal obligations pertaining to that plant in a place of work. Practical skills are refreshed in the completion of pre-operation checks prior to operations, wearing correct PPE, communicating, parking and shutting down a Telehandler.

Certification

Telehandler Operator Cerfication will be awarded to students who achieve a minimum of 80% pass in both theory and practical components.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • legislative requirements.
  • planning work.
  • equipment familiarisation.
  • load capacity charts.
  • safe operations.
  • pre-operational inspections.
  • manoeuvres with un-laden telehandler.
  • stacking, de-stacking and moving loads.
  • use of warning devices and signals fied.
  • safety requirements while completing operations.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the safe operation of a telehandler.
  • Perform a pre-operational inspection and start up procedure for a telehandler.
  • Demonstrate practical telehandler skills.
  • Park and shut down a telehandler.

Course structure

The course is a combination of theoretical and practical training and assessment.

Course Prerequisites

Holds a current Telehandler Operator Certificate.

Assessment process

Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. Assessment involves operating a telehandler with forks.

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every three years.

  • Covered-in safety footwear.
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for classroom situation.

There isn’t much that Bob can’t drive or operate.  Bob is a MITO, and Connexis registered assessor, a Competenz registered Forklift Trainer and an NZTA approved assessor.  Bob started his career as a Driver/Operator within the Transport and Building Industries and has spent the last 20 years training people on safe driving and operating equipment.  He believes in giving the right information to the candidate so that they can make the right decisions out there in the workplace, that teaching the safe use of heavy machinery includes a strong approach to forming a safety culture at their workplace so that the operator goes home safe every day.
